STILLWATER, Okla.– The UTSA men’s tennis team suffered a 7-0 defeat at the hands of Oklahoma State on Friday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
The Cowboys started hot, with Alessio Basile and Ian Bracks taking down the freshman tandem of Maximilian Ontiveros and Yonatan Sagiv, 6-3. Sophomores Oskar Grzegorzewski and Ben Chetewy Ungar then bested Derek Pham and Charlie Valentine, 6-4, sending doubles into a deciding third match. OSU, however, got the point as sophomore Enzo Vargas and freshman Timeo Bretin fell 6-4 to Nicolas Kobelt and Aaron Williams.
In singles action, Kobelt topped freshman Constantin Radu, 6-1, 6-3, and Williams beat Chetewy Ungar, 6-1, 6-1, to put OSU up, 3-0. Basile recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win over Grzegorzewski, and Valentine overcame Sagiv, 6-2, 7-6 (6-4) to increase their advantage to five. Rounding things out, Pham topped Vargas, 6-0, 7-6 (6-3), and Bracks outlasted Bretin, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) to cement the sweep.
UTSA will now take a trip to Wichita, Kansas, where Wichita State awaits on Sunday at 10 a.m. inside the Coleman Tennis Complex.
