UTSA returns to College Station for Charlie Thomas Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA track & field teams will head back to College Station and R.A. "Murray" Fasken '38 Indoor Track for the third time this indoor season, opening competition on Friday and Saturday at Texas A&M’s Charlie Thomas Invitational.

The Roadrunners will head back to College Station with a 34-athlete contingent (20 men, 14 women) to compete in multiple disciplines with another round of action at Fasken. Last time out, redshirt junior Jemuel Miller won the triple jump with a 15.69m (51-5.75) measurement that tops the American Conference and earned Miller American Field Athlete of the Week honors. On the women’s side, sophomore Mia Lien won the high jump at 1.80m (5-10.75), currently sitting at second in the American behind teammate Edlin Laur.

Competition for Charlie Thomas at Fasken begins on Friday with combined events competition, as the first four events of the men’s heptathlon (60-meter, long jump, shot put and high jump) are on the schedule beginning at 11 a.m., while the women’s pentathlon of 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800-meter begin at 11:20 a.m. The first overall event of the day will be the women’s weight throw at 9:30 a.m., with the shot put, long jump and high jump scheduled in the afternoon.

Friday running events are late in the afternoon, beginning with the 200-meter at 5:10 p.m., followed by 5,000-meter and 400-meter sections leading up to a 7:45 p.m. finish.

On Saturday, the heptathlon will wrap up, beginning with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter, opening competition at 11 a.m. Field events resume at 11 a.m. with the men’s weight throw, followed in the afternoon by triple jump and shot put sections.

On the track beginning at 1 p.m., the schedule has the 3,000-meter, followed by 60-meter, 60-meter hurdles, mile, 800-meter and the 4x400-meter relays to conclude around 6:20 p.m.

The Roadrunners are set to compete against athletes from Abilene Christian, Arizona State, East Texas A&M, Houston, Rice, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, SMU, South Plains College, Texas Southern, Texas State, UCF, UT Arlington, UT Rio Grande Valley, Western Texas and host Texas A&M.
