SAN ANTONIO— The UTSA men’s tennis team suffered a 6-1 defeat at the hands of North Florida on Friday at the UNF Tennis Complex, with sophomore Oskar Grzegorzewski picking up the ‘Runners lone singles win of the day.
The Roadrunners (0-8) fell to the Ospreys (7-3) as freshman Maximilian Ontiveros and sophomore Ben Chetewy Ungar took down Aron Major and Youssef Labbene, 6-2 to open doubles play. The Ospreys bounced back as Joao Portugal and Jean Deloziere bested Grzegorzewski and freshman Yonatan Sagiv, 6-3, and Breno Marques and Andreas Scott beat freshman Constantin Radu and classmate Timeo Bretin, 7-5, to snag the point.
In singles action, Major topped senior Luke Cantu, 6-1, 6-2, and Marques, Radu, 6-4, 6-1. Labbene got the job done against Bretin, 6-4, 6-0, and Kyle Piqueras bested Chetewy Ungar, 6-3, 6-2. Grzegorzewski picked up a point over Scott, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, ahead of Portugal outlasting Ontiveros, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0, (11-9) to cement the 6-1 score line.
UTSA will look to bounce back on Saturday, as they face Georgia Southern at 9 a.m. CT in Statesboro at the Wallie Tennis Center.
