SAN MARCOS, Texas – On Tuesday, UTSA Baseball took its first road trip of 2026, visiting Texas State. A record crowd was on hand at Bobcat Ballpark as the hosts pulled ahead early and never looked back. The Roadrunners (7-1) mustered up a pair of late runs, but struck out 14 times en route to their first loss of the season. Texas State walked away with a 7-2 win, improving to 6-2 on the year.
FIRST INNING
The visitors went down quietly in the opening frame, making way for Christian Okerholm’s first start of 2026. A pair of baserunners forced pressure in the early stages before a bloop single scored the game’s first run. Two batters later, a sacrifice fly to deep center put the home side ahead by two.
SECOND INNING
After an uneventful frame for the Roadrunners, Texas State added another pair of runs with a walk and a home run. Following the blast, James Hubbard entered with one away in the second, escaping unscathed. Still, after just six outs, UTSA was facing its largest deficit of the season.
FOURTH INNING
A leadoff single put Lane Haworth back on the base paths, with Andrew Stucky following shortly behind for a base knock of his own. A deep fly sent Haworth tagging toward third, but a crucial double play stifled the Roadrunners’ momentum. Meanwhile, James Hubbard remained on the mound, holding the Bobcats scoreless through 2.1 innings out of the bullpen.
SIXTH INNING
Drew Detlefsen took the second pitch of the frame deep to left-center field, posting his team’s first score of the night on a 419-foot home run. Lane Haworth followed up with a double to deep center before the hosts swapped pitchers. Jake Qualia remained solid on the mound after entering with two outs in the fifth. The Lubbock, Texas, native struck out a pair before gearing up for the seventh.
SEVENTH INNING
TXST added a solo home run in its penultimate trip to the batter’s box, expanding its lead to 7-1. Aside from the four-bagger, Qualia struck out the other three batters to send his offense back out.
EIGHTH INNING
Facing a new Bobcat on the mound, Caden Miller fought his way to first with a walk. Then, Haworth’s second hard-hit double to center field gave the ‘Runners two in scoring position with just one away. On an ensuing wild pitch, Miller dove head first into home, with his run counting after a review that cut the deficit to 7-2. Ryan Self took over on the mound in the home half, allowing just one hit before getting out of the frame scoreless on a double play.
NINTH INNING
The visitors were retired in order, sealing the game on a ground ball to second base. The final out came two hours and fifty-eight minutes after first pitch, making the first mark in the loss column for UTSA in 261 days.
