Sunday Drubbing Caps Off UTSA Sweep

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Baseball hosted its third and final game of the 2026 opening weekend on Sunday from Roadrunner Field. South Dakota State mustered up nine hits, but put just one run on the board as the hosts ran away with their third consecutive blowout. The sweep vaulted Pat Hallmark’s group to 3-0 for the first time since 2020 as they turn to UIC on Tuesday.

FIRST INNING

Kendall Dove earned the nod on the mound, making quick work of the Jackrabbits early on. When his offense came out in inning one, they immediately set the tone. Caden Miller’s leadoff double was followed up by a Lane Haworth RBI single. Four of the ensuing five batters were walked to first, with two scoring runs. Brandon Bishop then cleared the bases with a single to left, before advancing to second on a fielding error. Caden Miller followed up just three pitches later with a double off the wall in center field, plating the seventh and final run of the frame.

SECOND INNING

After Dove sat down SDSU in order on just 13 pitches, the home side got back to work in a flash. Haworth sent the first pitch down the left-field line for a single before scoring just two pitches later on a Josh Arquette double. Diego Diaz then stepped up to the plate after Aidan Eshelman reached via an error. The second baseman sent a rocket into right field, trekking 270 feet for a two-RBI triple. Diaz made his way home on a wild pitch, heading to the top of the third already holding an 11-0 edge.

FIFTH INNING

Conor Myles stepped in for Dove after his four scoreless innings were capped off with a strikeout to escape a bases-loaded jam. A triple found its way to deep center before a single plated SDSU’s only run of the game four pitches later.

SEVENTH INNING

Head Coach Pat Hallmark turned to Sam Simmons at the top of the frame, sending the senior to the mound for the first time in 2026. Simmons put together a perfect two innings, tossing only eight pitches before his offense headed back out. Garrett Gruel and Lane Haworth each notched two-out hits before Broc Parmer sent a well-placed ball over the middle of the infield, expanding the lead to 12-1.

EIGHTH INNING

Simmons was even more efficient in his second frame, sitting SDSU down 1-2-3 on seven pitches to wrap up a flawless Sunday showing. After three of four batters walked in the home half, Josh Vaughn came through with a sacrifice fly, scoring the game’s final run at 13-1.
