SAN ANTONIO— The UTSA women’s basketball team suffered a 69-63 defeat at the hands of South Florida on Saturday in American Conference action at the Convocation Center.
The Roadrunners (12-12, 7-6 American) fell to the Bulls (16-10, 9-4 American), as junior Idara Udo scored 15 points and collected 12 rebounds – 10 on the offensive glass. Senior Ereauna Hardaway scored 17 points with eight assists and three steals, while sophomore Damara Allen and senior Cheyenne Rowe each charted 10 points and eight rebounds.
The teams matched each other midway through the first quarter, with a Hardaway triple working a 7-7 tie. The battle raged on, with an Udo make seeing a 13-11 advantage entering the second.
South Florida started the stanza on fire, scoring the first nine points to grow a 20-13 edge, ahead of a 31-19 lead. UTSA scored seven of the final nine points in the half, with a redshirt junior Siena Guttadauro step-back buzzer beater seeing a 33-26 score line.
A Hardaway layup had UTSA back within five midway through the third, but seven straight by USF increased the Bulls' advantage to 12. Udo halted the run with a bucket, issuing a 47-37 score, ahead of a 51-39 USF lead at the quarter’s conclusion.
With under a minute to play, UTSA sparked a 10-2 run, as a Hardaway three-pointer had them down four. From there, USF sank its free throws for a 69-63 victory.
