Frank Harris, Tameka Roberts-Nunez, Larry Coker to be inducted into San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame

SAN ANTONIO — Former UTSA star quarterback Frank Harris, former UTSA All-American Tameka Roberts-Nunez and former UTSA head football coach Larry Coker will be inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame, as the 2026 class was unveiled in a press conference on Tuesday afternoon at the Alamodome.

Harris, Roberts-Nunez and Coker are joined by James Feigen and the 1971 Robert E. Lee High School football team in the 2026 San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Class. The group will be inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, Aug. 29, in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Stars at Night Ballroom.

Harris became one of the most decorated UTSA athletes in any sport during his career, which spanned from 2017 to 2023. He started 52 games at quarterback, guiding the Roadrunners to a 39-13 record in those contests. He helped lead UTSA to back-to-back Conference USA Championships in 2021 and 2022, to four consecutive bowl games from 2020 to 2023 and to the program’s first-ever top-25 ranking.

A product of Schertz Clemens High School, where he was a star football and basketball player, Harris was the 2022 Conference USA Most Valuable Player and the conference championship game MVP that season. A three-time all-conference selection, he was a finalist for the 2022 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award and a semifinalist for that award three times overall. He landed on the Davey O’Brien Award semifinalist list twice and was a four-time Davey O’Brien QB Class member. He also was named to the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football All-Texas College First Team twice and was chosen as that publication’s Best Quarterback in 2023 and the Offensive Player of the Year in 2021.

Harris finished his career with more than 35 school records to his name, including career marks for total offensive yards (14,007), passing yards (11,862), passing touchdowns (92) and 300-yards passing games (13). He also rushed for 2,145 yards and 28 TDs, both program standards for a quarterback.

Roberts-Nunez, a letterwinner in both track & field and women’s basketball who was a member of the inaugural UTSA Athletics Hall of Fame Class in 2023, stamped her name all over the UTSA record book in the 1990s. She was an eight-time All-American and captured 17 individual or relay conference titles during her career.

A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, she earned three All-America accolades in 1996, finishing sixth in the long jump (6.21m) at the NCAA Indoor Championships, as well as ninth in the 200 meters (23.43) and 11th in the long jump (6.41m) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She collected her first All-America certificate in the long jump (5.84m) at the 1995 NCAA Outdoor Championships and reeled in three All-America awards in 1997, placing fourth in the 200m at the NCAA Indoor Championships and earning honors in the 100m and 200m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She also finished fifth in the 200m (23.26) at the 1998 NCAA Indoor Championships.

Her long list of conference awards includes three Southland Conference Indoor and two Southland Conference Outdoor Athlete of the Year honors, as well as being named Southland Conference Outstanding Track Performer five times and Southland Conference Field Performer once. She was the high-point scorer at the conference meet four times and helped the Roadrunners win league outdoor titles in 1996 and 1997.

A two-sport athlete at UTSA, Roberts played basketball in 1997-98 and posted 47 points, 48 rebounds, 13 assists and 20 steals.

The first head football coach in UTSA history and a member of the UTSA Athletics Hall of Fame Inaugural Class, Coker was hired in March 2009 to start the program from scratch. A national championship coach in 2001 at Miami (Fla.), his hiring brought immediate national recognition and visibility to the university, and he delivered by engineering one of the most successful startup programs in the modern era.

Following a practice season in 2010, UTSA set an NCAA modern startup program record when 56,743 fans filed into the Alamodome on Sept. 3, 2011, to watch the Roadrunners defeat Northeastern State, Coker’s alma mater. UTSA went on to average 35,521 fans — also a startup program record — for six home games.

The Roadrunners doubled their win total in year two, posting an 8-4 overall record and finishing fourth behind three bowl-eligible teams in the WAC. UTSA debuted as a member of Conference USA in 2013 and finished 7-5 against a schedule that included seven bowl teams. He guided the Roadrunners to several more key victories over his final two seasons at the helm, including a 27-7 upset of Houston in the 2014 season opener in the first game played at the Cougars’ TDECU Stadium.

The Okemah, Oklahoma, native coached numerous standouts during his tenure, including UTSA’s first All-American and NFL draft pick in David Morgan II and the first NFL first-round selection and three-time all-conference performer in Marcus Davenport, a fellow UTSA Athletics Hall of Fame Inaugural Class inductee.

Harris, Roberts-Nunez and Coker are three most recent inductees of several San Antonio Sports Hall of Famers with ties to UTSA.

Former UTSA men’s basketball star Devin Brown, who won an NBA title in 2005 with the San Antonio Spurs, was inducted in 2023, while former athletics directors Rudy Davalos and Lynn Hickey were inducted in 2002 and 2020, respectively. Those three also are members of the UTSA Athletics Hall of Fame. Former UTSA assistant track & field/cross country coach Rose Monday, who has coached Team USA in the Olympics, joined the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame in 2023.

Additionally, three former UTSA staff members were inducted for the athletic accomplishments. Laura Neugebauer-Groff, who coached UTSA’s volleyball program for 20 years, was selected in 2011 for her outstanding high school, collegiate and professional volleyball career. Legendary golfer and 1981 British Open champion Bill Rogers, who was a member of the UTSA men’s and women’s golf staffs for seven seasons, was inducted in 2005. Former UTSA President Ricardo Romo was inducted in 2002 for his track & field/distance running prowess.
