ABILENE, Texas – On Friday, UTSA Women’s Tennis visited Abilene Christian for its second match of the spring season. The Roadrunners took an early lead with a convincing showing in doubles play, but the hosting Wildcats prevailed by a 4-3 margin after taking four of six singles points. The defeat was the first of the season for the visitors, dropping them to 1-1 in 2026.
Head Coach Ki Kroll, on the loss: “We lost a close match today. We did a great job in doubles and were able to secure the doubles point, but we came up short in singles. Our players competed hard and gave everything they had on the court, but it wasn’t enough today. We’re a young team that continues to learn and grow each match, and we’ll be ready to come back stronger at home against Sam Houston.”
Match 2
The Roadrunners came out hot, taking two courts to quickly capture the doubles point. Both courts one and three prevailed by 6-2 margins, pushing UTSA ahead 1-0 early on the indoor facility’s scoreboard.
Ki Kroll’s bunch got out to a rockier start in singles action, taking just two of six opening sets. One such outcome belonged to Akari Tomoyose, who prevailed 7-6 on tiebreakers, before capturing set two (6-4) to earn her side’s first individual point of the afternoon. Later in the day, fellow Japan native Aoka Nagasawa picked up a crucial victory (6-3, 6-4) to knot the affair at three points apiece. Court No. 6 was the final court to wrap up on the day, with ACU eeking out a three-set victory (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) to seal a second-consecutive win.
