UTSA to face first-place Rice on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team will face off with the American Conference leaders on Saturday, as Rice heads to the Convocation Center at 1 p.m. for a Play4Kay Cancer Awareness contest.

The Roadrunners are asking fans to Pink Out the Convo in support of the event, which sees UTSA and the American Conference partner with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The organization’s goal is to raise awareness and support in the fight against all cancers affecting women, and in 2026, all 13 American women’s basketball programs have committed to raising a combined $25,000 during the 2025-26 season. In return, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund will invest $50,000 directly into Birmingham, Alabama — the host city of the American Women’s Basketball Championship — to deliver lifesaving cancer care to under-resourced women in the local community. Those wishing to donate to the cause and help UTSA climb to the top of the conference leaderboard may do so at the following link: charity.pledgeit.org/American, Fans who donate at least $10 to the cause can receive a limited edition pink UTSA t-shirt.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Alex Loeb (play-by-play), Carlie Heineman (analyst) and Katie Goodman (reporter) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app. Live stats for the contest can be found at goUTSA.com/wbbstats, and tickets are available for purchase at goUTSA.com/wbbtickets.

The Roadrunners (10-9, 5-3 American) look to carry momentum from a 66-64 victory over North Texas on Wednesday, which saw senior Cheyenne Rowe post a career-high 27 points with 11 rebounds, while sophomore Damara Allen drained the game-winning shot. Senior Ereauna Hardaway posted nine points with six boards and five assists, and junior Idara Udo logged eight points with four rebounds in just nine minutes of action.

The Owls (18-3, 8-0 American) remain undefeated in league play, with their only losses of the campaign coming at the hands of South Dakota, Princeton, and UCF. Rice rides a 13-game winning streak, which matched Fairfield for the fifth-longest in the NCAA.

They lead the conference in a quartet of statistics, including free-throw percentage, with 81.1% ranking third in the NCAA. A scoring margin of plus-11.0, an assists/turnover ratio of 1.05 and 10.4 turnovers per game also lead the American.

Individually, Hailey Adams has starred on the boards with 339 rebounds, ranking ninth nationally, and defensively, 34 blocks top the conference. Dominique Ennis has been lethal from beyond the arc, sinking 56 triples at a 34.1% clip, and she’s not afraid to let it fly with 164 three-point attempts, 13th nationally.

Ennis is one of four Owls to average double-digit scoring, with 12.6 points per game, leading the team. Hayes is not far behind, logging 12.2, while Victoria Flores manages 11.2 and Aniah Alexis, 10.2. Additionally, the offense flows through Adams as she boasts a team-high 73 assists.
