UTSA Athletics Announces Partnership with La Panadería

by Sean Cartell

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio-based bakery-café La Panadería has joined UTSA Athletics as a corporate sponsor, it was announced Friday. The innovative five-year partnership features a number of new sponsorship elements for the Roadrunners.

One of the main elements of the partnership includes direct support for UTSA Cheer and Rowdy, which include primary logo placement on UTSA Cheer uniforms, marking the first time a brand has appeared as a patch on a collegiate cheer uniform.

There will be multiple co-branded, on-site activations and fan engagement elements tied to the partnership, including UTSA Cheer and Rowdy making appearances at new La Panadería location openings. In addition, La Panadería will provide team meals to Cheer and Rowdy throughout the year.

La Panadería also will become the first official UTSA Football practice jersey patch sponsor in program history.

La Panadería has created the Official Concha of UTSA Athletics, a UTSA orange concha, filled with smooth Nutella - the perfect sweet treat for any Roadrunner.

Founded by brothers José and David Cáceres, La Panadería first opened in 2014. The Cáceres’ passion for baking began when they were young boys selling loaves of their mother, Doña Josefina’s fresh baked bread on the streets of Mexico City.

La Panadería currently has five San Antonio area locations: Broadway, Downtown, La Cantera Heights, Midtown and Stone Oak.

Lisa Campos, UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics
“We’re excited to welcome La Panadería as an Official Sponsor of UTSA Athletics. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to San Antonio. La Panadería’s support to both our Football program and Cheer and Rowdy is especially meaningful as it provides direct investment in the spirit and pride that fuel our gameday atmosphere. We are grateful for La Panadería’s partnership and look forward to continuing to unite the San Antonio community.”

Ashley Johnson, UTSA Head Cheer and Mascot Coach
"Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it. La Panadería becoming our first-ever cheer sponsor and committing to the next five years is truly a blessing. Their support in providing uniforms, game day meals, and more, is incredibly impactful for Cheer and Rowdy. They are the true team behind the team, and I’m forever thankful for their belief in our athletes and our program. I hope their generosity inspires others to get involved and help us continue building something special."

Robert Stockhausen, General Manager, UTSA Sports Properties
"We are thrilled to welcome La Panadería as our record 29th new UTSA sponsor this year.  Their team is like our team - up before sunrise, putting in the work to make San Antonians happy and proud of the 210. That's why La Panadería is a perfect fit to sponsor our football practice jerseys. La Panadería is the fabric of San Antonio."

José Cáceres, Co-Founder, La Panadería
“Since we arrived in San Antonio, UTSA has always supported La Panadería and our family. Now, we are proud to start this new chapter and be able to give back and support the UTSA Athletics Department.”
