UTSA’s season comes to an end at the American Volleyball Championships

TAMPA, Fla. – The Roadrunners fall to the first-seeded Rice Owls 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-17) on Friday, Nov. 21, at The Corral in Tampa, Florida, in the quarterfinals of the 2025 American Volleyball Championships.

Set One
Rice jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first set on the back of a five-point scoring run. The Owls rode another five-point scoring run to go up 19-7 over the Roadrunners. After a point from the Roadrunners Rice won the race to 20 being up 20-8. Rice was able to close out the set victory, winning 25-12.

Set Two
UTSA started off the second set, scoring the first two points. However, Rice answered with a 7-1 scoring run to go up 7-3. The Owls were able to go up 13-8 on a three-point scoring run. The Roadrunners went on a three-point scoring run to make it 17-13 in favor of Rice. The Owls won the race to 20 leading the Roadrunners by six. Rice managed to close out the set victory, winning 25-18.

Set Three
UTSA found itself in a hard-fought set as the match was tied at 10-10 through the first twenty points of the set. Rice went on a five-point scoring run to go up 17-11 over the Roadrunners. Rice won the race to 20, leading by five. The Owls managed to close out the third set, winning 25-17.

Notes
- Giada Obregon recorded her 13 digs for her 19th double-digit dig match of the season.
- Taylor Gaines recorded 14 kills for her 12th double-digit kill match of her career.
- Keelea Alexander had 10 digs for her second double-digit dig match of the season.
