INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA on Wednesday released its annual Division I Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data and UTSA has reported a departmental-record GSR of 92 percent, marking the 11th consecutive year the department has posted a GSR of 80 percent or better.
UTSA’s 92 percent GSR eclipses the previous record of 90 percent GSR, recorded last year.
“We are tremendously proud of this incredible achievement by our student-athletes, made possible by their hard work and dedication in the classroom,” said Lisa Campos, UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. “Graduating our student-athletes is one of our top priorities. Sustaining this level of academic excellence across our department for the past 11 years speaks to the incredible support of our academic services staff and the commitment to academics from our coaching staff.”
Every UTSA sports program logged a GSR of 80 percent or better in the latest report. Four teams registered a perfect rate as men’s golf, women’s golf, soccer and women’s tennis all posted a 100 percent GSR. Baseball (95%), Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field (90%), Women’s Basketball (92%), Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field (95%), Softball (90%) and Volleyball (90%) each turned in a GSR of 90 percent or better.
Figures released Wednesday reflect graduation numbers among student-athletes who entered college in 2018.
Since the implementation of Division I academic reforms initiated over two decades ago — including modifications of initial-eligibility requirements and progress-toward-degree standards, as well as application of the Academic Performance Program — long-term graduation rate increases have been observed overall and across sport and demographic subgroups.
