SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head women’s golf coach Summer Batiste announced on Friday that the program has signed Miah Wanserski and Yiwei Zhao. The pair will join the Roadrunners beginning with the 2026-27 season.
“We are very excited to have Miah and Yiwei join our family,” Batiste said. “They are both very much Roadrunners through and through, and the passion they have to compete as a Roadrunner is electric. They’ll have an immediate impact on our program from day one on campus and help push our team to compete for future championships.”

2025 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 2A runner-up as a senior at Downers Grove South High School … carded a 3-under-par 141 (72-69) that included 10 birdies for the event … IHSA Regional Champion … claimed the West Suburban Conference title by shooting a 3-under 69 … won the 2025 Players Challenge #3 at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago with a 148 (72-76) … finished seventh at the 2025 AJGA Marathon Petroleum Preview at Findlay … tied for seventh at the IJGA-CDGA Junior Amateur in 2025 and was fourth the year prior … also played softball … member of the National Honor Society, Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) and Athletes Committed to Excellence … father, Jim, played tennis at Carthage College.
Yiwei Zhao (Zhengzhou City, China/Springfield [Mass.] Commonwealth Academy)
Experienced junior golfer from China who owns more than a dozen top-10 finishes … tied for first at the 2025 AJGA International Pathway Championship … claimed top honors at the 2024 Guangdong Junior Championship … competed in the U.S. Girls Junior Championship in 2024 and 2025, carding a 75-74—149 in her latest appearance … tied for fourth with a 1-under 215 (73-68-74) at the CLPGQ Chongqing Series 4 … tied for 11th at the 2024 China Amateur Open … posted a top-25 showing at the 2025 Future Champions Golf International Junior Championship … logged a pair of top-three finishes at Uswing Mojing Junior World Championship Cup events … won the 2024 CWJPGA Golf Challenge Zhuhai Station and the 2021 Buick Junior Championship … active in numerous extracurricular activities including mountain biking … runner-up at a spelling bee competition in 2018.
