SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team is set to make its home debut on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. with a Battle of I-35 against Texas State in the Convocation Center.
Prior to the contest, a pair of brand-new banners will be unveiled in the rafters, one in recognition of the team's 2024-25 Regular Season American Conference Championship, and another to mark UTSA's inaugural appearance in the Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament (WBIT). Fans can receive a commemorative American Championship banner upon entry while supplies last, and the trophy will be available for photos in the front lobby of The Convo.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Jordy Fee-Platt (play-by-play), Carlie Heineman (analyst) and Katie Goodman (reporter) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (0-2, 0-0 American) will look to bounce back after falling to a pair of Big 12 foes on the road in the opening week of the 2025-26 campaign.
UTSA first suffered a 79-52 defeat at the hands of Texas Tech before narrowly dropping a 52-48 decision to Houston. Junior Idara Udo delivered a standout performance against the Lady Raiders, posting a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Cheyenne Rowe, meanwhile, was solid against the Cougars with a double-double of her own, featuring 10 points and 11 boards.
The Bobcats (0-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) are searching for their first win of the campaign, with losses against Ohio (72-66) and Texas Tech (83-50) in the opening week.
Saniya Burks starred for Texas State, recording 22.0 points per game at a 58.6% clip that includes a 57.1% mark from beyond the arc. Kyra Anderson also performed well, averaging 8.0 points per game and a team-high 9.5 rebounds per game.
Last season, UTSA got the better of Texas State, 70-54, in what represented the 'Runners first Battle of I-35 win since 2016, and their first in Strahan Arena since 2013. UTSA shot 49% to Texas State's 35%, while snagging 18 more rebounds and 26 more points in the paint.
