SAN ANTONIO – The American Conference-Champion UTSA soccer team (10-5-6) learned on Monday afternoon its opponent and destination for the first round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship during an NCAA Selection Show watch party at the Park West Fieldhouse. After advancing past UAB and No. 3 Memphis to face and defeat Rice for the conference title, UTSA will travel to Lubbock, Texas, to face No. 6 seed Texas Tech (13-2-4) on Friday, Nov. 14.
Under the direction of eighth-year head coach Derek Pittman, the Roadrunners earned their first American Conference Championships title over the weekend in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, notching the second conference crown with Pittman at the helm. The squad reached a 10-win season for the first time since 2022.
“Our group believed we were capable of this achievement all season long,” Pittman said. “Earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament is the result of their unselfish work, a shared vision and an unconditional commitment to improve every single day. Now, facing a tough opponent in Texas Tech, our mindset is simple: respect the moment, but don’t be intimidated by the name. We will be prepared and we are here to compete to keep this historic season alive.”
The TTU Red Raiders are 13-2-4 overall and went 7-1-3 in Big 12 Conference play for a fourth-place regular season league finish. Opening the Big 12 Tournament as the fourth seed, TTU was eliminated from the conference tournament on Nov. 3 by fifth-seeded Baylor via a 7-6 penalty shootout after drawing through regulation and overtime.
The Roadrunners have previously won the conference tournament and reached the NCAA Championship as a conference automatic qualifier in 2022 (Conference USA Tournament Champion) and 2010 (Southland Conference Tournament Champion). In the most recent appearance, UTSA faced No. 2 seed TCU in the opening round in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Roadrunners and Red Raiders will face off on Friday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. CT at the John Walker Soccer Complex. In the single-elimination format, the winner will advance to a second-round matchup on Nov. 20 against the winner between North Carolina and No. 3 seed Tennessee.
