Vargas paces Roadrunners on day two of Trinity Forest Invitational

DALLAS — Logan Vargas posted an even-par scorecard to pace the UTSA men’s golf team on Monday in the second round of the Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club (par 72/7,617 yards).

Vargas carded a 72 to lead the way for the second straight day with his third consecutive par-or-better round. After opening the week with a 2-under 70 on Sunday, the senior from Lubbock has a share of 25th place at 2-under 142 with 18 holes left to play on Tuesday.

Vargas got his Monday started off on the right foot with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 1-2. He added his third birdie of the day with a four on the 630-yard fifth but settled for a 2-over 38 on the front. He then went bogey-free on the back nine, writing down birdies on the 554-yard, par-5 10th and on the 315-yard, par-4 14th, giving him a team-high nine circled numbers for the event.

Brayden Bare is in 47th at 2-over 146 as the redshirt junior opened with a 72 on Sunday before posting a 74 today that featured an eagle on the 596-yard, par-5 second to go with a pair of birdies.

Joshua Hong is two shots behind Bare in a tie for 56th at 4-over 148. The freshman from Mexico registered the second-best score by a Roadrunner on Monday with a 1-over 73 that included four birdies, three as part of a 2-under 34 on the back.

Logan Zurn also is tied for 56th at 4-over par, as the senior out of Grapevine, Texas, turned in his second straight 74 on the strength of two birdies.

Francisco Solorza rounds out the UTSA lineup in 81st (78-75—153).

The Roadrunners are in 15th place in the team standings with an 8-over 584 (291-293), only seven shots out of the top 10.

South Alabama leads the team race (-23), followed by Rice (-21) and USC (-20).

The final round is slated for Tuesday.
