HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — Paced by a top-15 finish from Victoria Schuldt, the UTSA women’s golf team finished seventh at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on Sunday at University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch (par 72/6,622 yards).
Schuldt carded an even-par 216 to earn a share of 15th in the individual standings for the top finish of the true freshman’s young collegiate career. Her performance helped lead the Roadrunners to a 17-over 881, good for sole possession of seventh in the 15-team field.
UTSA moved up one spot on the final day, finishing one shot ahead of Tulane and three in front of Colorado State. The Roadrunners ended up nine strokes out of a tie for fifth between Clemson and Xavier.
Schuldt opened the three-day event with back-to-back rounds of 2-under 70 before settling for a 76 on the final day. A native of Germany, she wrote down two of her nine birdies during the final 18 holes with a two on the par-3 fifth and a three on the par-4 12th. Her season-best 70s on the first two days helped lead to her best 54-hole of the season, 12 shots better than a 228 posted in her last outing. She also played the par fives at 4-under for the weekend.
Fellow freshman Kayla Black was the next highest-finisher for UTSA, tying for 26th with a 4-over 220. After opening with a 70, she bounced back from a 76 in round two with a 74 today that featured birdies on the par-4 seventh and par-5 11th holes. The Mississauga, Ontario, native ended the tournament with a team-best 10 birdies.
Daniela Abonce tied for 45th with a 224. The senior from Mexico carded a 74-73—147 for the first two days before posting a 77 on Sunday behind a pair of birdies.
Sydney Bisgrove turned in the top score of the final day for the Roadrunners with an even-par 72 that was highlighted by 16 pars and a birdie on the par-4 14th. The sophomore from Calgary, Alberta, logged nine birdies for the week and finished in a tie for 52nd (76-78-72—226).
Lauren Rios was one shot behind in a tie for 56th with a 227 (74-75-78).
Vanderbilt captured the team title with a 24-under 840 behind individual medalist Elizabeth Rudisill (-10).
The Roadrunners will close out the fall season on Oct. 19-20 at the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, Texas.
