UTSA defeats UAB 3-1 to improve to 10-5

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Roadrunners picked up their third conference victory, winning 3-1 (19-25, 25-17, 25-23, 26-44) over the UAB Blazers on Sunday, Oct. 5 at the Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Ala.

Set One
The Roadrunners and the Blazers found themselves in a hard-fought battle; however, UTSA was able to reach 10 points first, being ahead by one over UAB. The Blazers took a five-point lead thanks to an eight-point scoring run. UAB won the race 20 as they were up by six points.  UAB managed to close it out, winning the first set 25-19.

Set Two
The Roadrunners went on a five-point sure to go up 10-6 over UAB. The Blazers managed to tie it at 10 as they went on a four-point scoring run. UTSA then went on an eight-point scoring run to go up 22-13 over the Blazers. UAB made an attempt at a comeback, but UTSA managed to close it out 25-17.

Set Three
UTSA got the third set going as they ripped off a four-point scoring run to go up over the Blazers 4-0. UTSA was able to maintain its lead as the set went on. UTSA won the race to 20, leading by five. The Roadrunners were able to force a set point with UAB down by two.

Set Four
UAB took a 17-12 lead in the fourth set. The Roadrunners managed to fight back thanks to a four-point scoring surge to take a 20-19 lead. Both teams kept battling as the Roadrunners forced match point with 25 points to the Blazers’ 24. Taylor Gaines put the match away on a kill, giving UTSA the 26-24 win.  

Notes
- Gigi Mason recorded her third double-digit kill match with 14.
- Ally Tribe recorded her ninth double-digit dig match with 15 digs.
- Giada Obregon notched her eighth double-digit dig match with 14 digs.
- Tribe also grabbed her eighth double-double of the season with 12 kills and 15 digs.
