UTSA to wrap up fall slate at Trinity Forest Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men’s golf team will wrap up the fall slate with the Trinity Forest Invitational on Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 5-7, at Trinity Forest Golf Club (par 72/7,617 yards).

The Roadrunners will travel a lineup consisting of Joshua Hong, Logan Zurn, Brayden Bare, Logan Vargas and Francisco Solorza.

UTSA will compete against Abilene Christian, Baylor, Cal Poly, East Tennessee State, Furman, Houston, Louisiana, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston, host SMU, South Alabama, USC and UTRGV.

The field will play 18 holes each day. Live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.

The Roadrunners have played in the Trinity Forest Invitational six times previously, including last year when they finished 15th behind Vargas’ tie for 43rd. Their top finish in the event was a runner-up showing in March 2021.

UTSA is coming off an eighth-place finish at the Badger Invitational on Sept. 22-23 in Madison, Wisconsin. Hong led the way by grabbing a share of 24th at 2-over 218 (71-71-76), while Zurn and Bare finished as part of a deadlock for 29th at 3-over 219.

Hong paces the Roadrunners with a 71.33 stroke average this season. The true freshman from Mexico has registered seven red numbers in nine rounds, including a season-best 69 in the final round of the Argent Financial Classic to close out a 7-under 209 and ninth-place finish.

Bare stands second on the squad with a 73.44 scoring mark. The redshirt junior from Waco has logged a trio of par-or-better rounds, headlined by a 69 in the final round of the Argent Financial Classic, while his top finish is 29th in his last outing.

Zurn owns a 73.5 stroke average through six rounds this fall. The senior from Grapevine, Texas, has carded a pair of even-par 72s including for the final 18 holes of the Badger Invitational, where he tied for 29th.

Vargas is close behind with a 73.89 scoring average in nine rounds with three red numbers. His best score of the season came in his last round, a 2-under 70 that helped him finish 40th at the Badger Invitational.

Solorza has recorded a 75.33 average through two events this season. The redshirt freshman from Mexico logged his best round with a 73 at the Argent Financial Classic and his top finish with a tie for 51st at the Highlands Invitational.
