UTSA falls to Rice in Houston

HOUSTON – UTSA falls to Rice 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-20) on Friday, Oct. 24 at the Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas. The Roadrunners are now 11-9 and have a conference record of 4-5.

Set One
 Rice took a decent-sized lead at the start of the first set on the back of a five-point surge. The Owls then went on an 8-1 scoring run to go up 17-9. UTSA had a three-point run to cut the lead to five at 18-13. Rice was able to close out the set victory, winning 25-18.

Set Two
UTSA opened up the set, gaining a five-point lead, going up over the Owls 7-2. The Roadrunners were unable to hold on to their lead as Rice tied the second set at 9-9. The second set was hard fought as it was tied at 15-15. Rice won the race to 20 as they led 20-17. The Owls closed out the second set, winning 25-21.  

Set Three
Rice took an early seven-point lead as they led 14-7 over the Roadrunners in the third set. The Owls won the race to 20 leading 20-11. The Roadrunners fought for a comeback as they went on a 7-1 scoring run to make the set 24-20. Rice was then able to close out the win, winning the set 25-20.

Notes
- Giada Obregon has recorded three service aces in the last four matches.
- Obregon also had 14 digs, her 12th double-digit dig game of the season.
- Caroline Tredwell led the team in kills with nine, which is just her second game this season, being the solo leader in kills.
- Megan Hawkins led the team in assists with 15.
