UTSA to compete in 2025 American Women’s Individual Tennis Championships

TULSA, Okla. — Natalia Castaneda Guerrero and Valeria Sanchez are set to represent UTSA in the 2025 American Women’s Individual Tennis Championships on Oct. 23-26 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.

As a tandem, Sanchez and Castaneda will kick off doubles play at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, playing against Lou Chalard and Lilly Schultz out of North Texas. If the Roadrunners win that match, they will go on to face off against the first-seeded Wichita State doubles team.

Castaeda kicks off her singles play at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, as she will take on Marianthi Christoforidou out of Temple. On the other side of the bracket, Sanches will face off against Natalia Perez from Tulane at the same time.

Competitors and tandems will be seeded based on national rankings. Singles matches will be best-of-three sets with no-ad scoring and tiebreaks at 6-all. Doubles matches will be played as an eight-game pro set until the semifinals, with the semifinals and final consisting of a best-of-three sets with a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a third set.

The singles and doubles tournament champions will represent the American at the ITA Conference Masters Championships, Nov. 6-9 in San Diego.

Sunday’s matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
