BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas. – The UTSA cross country team competed at the 2025 Arturo Barrios Invitational on Friday, with the men posting an average 8k time of 25:26 and finishing 25th, while the women placed 33rd in the 6k, averaging 23:53 at the Dale Watts XC Course.
The men scored 665 points, with senior O.J. Ruiz and freshman Ethan Carranza headlining a group that recorded five personal bests. Ruiz clocked in at 24:46.0 for 114th, and Carranza was hot on his tail, finishing 115th in 24:46.3. Newcomer David Zuniga followed, crossing the tape in 185th with a time of 25:32.0.
From there, the freshman trio of Austin Lyda, Israel Cuellar and Victor Charo all joined Ruiz and Carranza in posting collegiate bests. Lyda was 209th, finishing in 25:50.6, with Cuellar 239th in 26:17.8 and Charo 244th in 26:26.1.
Rounding things out, newcomer Michael Perez was 295th with a time of 28:02.4.
Freshman Jocelyn Karry paced the women for the third consecutive meet, placing 148th after completing the course in 22:18.8. Classmate Madison Gilliam followed, clocking in at 23:31.6 for a personal record and 230th. Freshman Annaliese Munoz joined her with a collegiate best time of 23:45.6, slotting her second and junior Jadelyn Malesich was not far behind in 247th at 23:23.4. Classmate Itzel Rojo placed 284th in 25:48.8, affording the squad 962 points.
Newcomer duo Destiny Duenas and Brianna Venegas followed with personal records, as Duenas was 290th in 26:12.0 and Venegas 299th in 27:04.7.
Finishing things up, sophomore Megan Groeschel was 300th with a time of 27:04.9, sophomore Emma Wallace took 302nd in 27:08.3 and classmate Estefania Colchado 306th in 28:26.4.
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 1, with the American Conference Cross Country Championships at Frank Liske Park in Concord, N.C.
