NEW YORK — UTSA senior Robert Henry Jr. has landed on The Athletic Midseason All-America Team, the publication announced on Wednesday.
A native of Lumberton, Mississippi, Henry earned one of the two second-team spots at running back along with NC State’s Hollywood Smothers one day after being chosen for the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football All-Texas College First Team.
Henry has emerged as one of the top rushers in the FBS this season. Through the first six games, he has piled up 730 yards and eight touchdowns on 92 carries. He also has caught 14 passes for 105 yards and a pair of scores, giving him 835 all-purpose yards.
Henry has reached the century mark on the ground four times this season. He opened the campaign with 177 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries against Texas A&M before going for 159 yards and a pair of scores along with one receiving TD versus Texas State. He then logged 144 rushing yards in back-to-back victories over UIW and Colorado State, which featured a 76-yard rushing touchdown and a 74-yard receiving TD. In fact, he owns five plays from scrimmage of 70-or-more yards, three more than any other FBS player. That total includes four rushes of 70-plus yards, which is twice as many as any other player this season.
He currently leads the American in rushing yards, rushing yards per game (121.7), rushing TDs, rushing yards per carry (7.9), total TDs (10), points scored (60) and all-purpose yards per game (139.2).
Among FBS players, he stands second in average yards per carry, third in rushing yards per game and total TDs, fourth in rushing yards, fifth in rushing TDs and sixth in all-purpose yards per game.
Fresh off a record-setting 61-13 victory over Rice, Henry and the Roadrunners (3-3, 1-1) will return to action this Saturday, Oct. 18, when they face North Texas (5-1, 1-1) in Denton. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at DATCU Stadium and the game will air on ESPN+ and Sports Radio AM 760 The Ticket.
