IRVING, Texas – For the second time this season, a UTSA soccer Roadrunner has garnered major weekly honors from the American Conference, as officials from the league office announced Monday that Kamryn Watson has been named American Freshman of the Week. In addition, senior Zoё May and redshirt senior Kameron Kloza received Honorable Mention in the weekly accolades.
Watson (Baton Rouge, La.) scored the gamewinning goal in a 1-0 shutout win over UIW on Thursday at San Antonio FC’s Toyota Field, pacing the Roadrunners to remain a perfect 3-0 in the Hometown Showdown. The freshman scored the lone goal of the contest in the 37th minute for her first career score.
The midfielder, May (Ottawa, Ontario), and the defender, Kloza (San Antonio, Texas) were important defensive components in helping the Roadrunners to a two-shutout week against UIW and then East Texas A&M, with the UTSA defense allowing just three shots on target all week. Perfectly setting Watson for her score, May tallied her first assist of the season against the Cardinals. Sunday vs. ETAMU, putting in a header into the back of the net for a 75th-minute goal – taking two attempts on the week, both on-target. Kloza set May for the ETAMU goal with her first assist of the year, serving up a long free kick to find May high in the box.
This is Kloza’s second career American recognition, the first for May and Watson. Watson’s award represents the second major weekly award for UTSA this season. The Roadrunners have now notched three Honorable Mentions this year.
