SAN ANTONIO – UTSA falls to Tulsa 3-2 (27-25, 25-11, 21-25, 31-29, 15-7) in its first American Conference match of the season on Friday, Sept. 26, at the Convocation Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Set One
Tulsa took a five-point lead thanks to a six-point scoring surge. UTSA tied it at 10-10 thanks to a 6-1 scoring run. The Roadrunners went on a seven-point run to go up 19-13 over the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa managed to tie the game at 21 apiece on the back of an 8-2 scoring run. Tulsa was able to close out the hard-fought battle, winning the first set 27-25.
Set Two
Tulsa went up big early in the second set, going up ten total points over UTSA as they led 12-2. Tulsa kept its foot on the gas, winning the race to 20 as it led 20-7. Tulsa then took the set 25-11.
Set Three
UTSA found itself in a hard-fought set as the game was tied at 11 apiece. Tulsa then went on a 5-1 scoring run to go up 17-14 over the Roadrunners. UTSA was able to tie the set at 19-19. Tulsa went up 21-20 over the Roadrunners; however, UTSA went on to score five straight points to win the third set 25-21.
Set Four
In yet another hard-fought battle, the Roadrunners fought to take a 15-14 lead on the back of a five-point scoring run. The ‘Runners were able to win the race to 20 ahead by two points. Both teams found themselves in a hard-fought battle, with the Roadrunners coming out on top as they won 31-29.
Set Five
In the fifth set, Tulsa jumped out to a 5-1 lead and maintained it as they won the race to 10, up by four. They were then able to finish off the match, winning 15-7.
Notes
- Gigi Mason picked up her second career double-digit kill match with 18.
- Taylor Gaines grabbed her eighth double-digit kill match with 12.
- Ally Tribe recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 21 digs and 11 kills.
- Megan Hawkins notched her fifth double-double of the season with 26 assists and 14 digs.
- There were 1,236 fans in attendance for the season high.
