Rios, Roadrunners register third-place finishes at Red Raider Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas — Lauren Rios tied for third place to guide the UTSA women’s golf team to a share of third in the team standings at the Red Raider Invitational, which wrapped up Wednesday at The Rawls Course (par 72/6,894 yards).

Rios recorded a 1-under-par 215 en route to the best finish of her UTSA career, eclipsing her previous top finish of 13th at the 2025 American Conference Championship. She ended up just two shots out of first place, which was claimed by Texas Tech’s Lauren Zaretsky.

Behind Rios’ top-three showing, the Roadrunners tied with Abilene Christian for third with an 890 (296-289-305), just two shots out of runner-up position in the 15-team race won by host Texas Tech (876).

Rios opened the event with a 1-under 71 on Tuesday morning and then fired a 2-under 70 in the afternoon to get to 3-under and grab a share of the individual lead. Battling tough conditions on Wednesday, the Coppell, Texas, native posted a 74 that featured 16 pars. She led the field with 41 pars and played the par fours at 1-under, the top mark in the tournament. She now has turned in five red numbers in six rounds and a pair of 54-hole totals that are below par this season, as she posted a 3-under 213 at the Sam Golden Invitational earlier this month.

Daniela Abonce was the next highest-finishing Roadrunner in a tie for 12th with a 224. The senior from Mexico tallied a 75-73—147 on Tuesday and closed with a 76 that featured a birdie on the 437-yard, par-4 eighth hole, giving her eight circled numbers for the week.

Victoria Schuldt registered a 228 to tie for 28th. The freshman from Germany started her week with an even-par 72 and then turned in rounds of 79 and 77 in her second career event.

Fellow freshman Kayla Black was one shot behind her teammate in a tie for 31st with a 229. The Canadian carded a 79-72—151 on Tuesday and closed with 78 that included a birdie on the 355-yard, par-4 seventh.

Maria Bastarrica rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 43rd (78-74-80).

Playing as an individual, Sydney Bisgrove tied for 33rd with a 230 that included a 3-under 69 in the second round.

The Roadrunners will return to the course on Oct. 3-5 at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Denver, Colorado.
