UTSA closes non-conference slate with a 3-0 victory

SAN ANTONIO – Roadrunners defeated Prairie View A&M 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-18) on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Convocation Center to close out the Roadrunner Classic with three wins. 

Set One
Prairie View opened up the match with a three-point scoring run. UTSA was able to mount a comeback on the back of a four-point run to tie it up at 6-6. A 7-1 scoring run by the Roadrunners to go up 13-10 over the Panthers. UTSA led by three with 20 points on the board and was able to close the set out as they won the first set 25-20.

Set Two
Roadrunners found themselves in a hard-fought battle as the set was all knotted up at 17 apiece. A solo block from Caroline Tredwell, her first of the match, gave UTSA a one-point lead. The Roadrunners were then able to win the race 20 being up by two, forcing the Panthers to take a timeout. UTSA was once again able to close out the set, winning 25-21.

Set Three
UTSA opened up the third set with a five-point surge to go up 5-1 over Prairie View. They then rode a three-point run to go up 9-4. UTSA kept rolling as they grew their lead to nine as they led 17-8. Prairie View threatened a comeback as the Roadrunners led 23-15. The Roadrunners closed it out as they won 25-18.

- The Roadrunners extended their win streak to five games.
- UTSA closed out its non-conference slate with a record of 7-4.
- Miranda Putnicki led the team in blocks with four.
