UTSA inks Summer Batiste to contract extension

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos announced on Tuesday that head women’s golf coach Summer Batiste has agreed to a contract extension that will keep her in San Antonio through May 31, 2029.

“Summer has been an incredible ambassador for UTSA and the women’s golf program, both as a student-athlete and as a head coach,” Campos said. “She has elevated this program to new heights competitively while also fostering a culture of excellence in the classroom and the community. I am thrilled to secure her leadership of this program for the future.”

Batiste is entering her ninth season at the helm of the program after a three-year stint as an assistant coach. A former UTSA player, she has led the Roadrunners to seven tournament titles — including a pair of conference championships — and six NCAA postseason team and or individual appearances during her tenure. A two-time conference coach of the year, she has coached her student-athletes to three individual league crowns and 14 all-conference certificates. Under her leadership, Camryn Carreon became the first Roadrunner to advance to the NCAA Championships in 2022, and she repeated that feat in 2023 after claiming the NCAA San Antonio Regional individual crown.

“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to continue to lead UTSA Women’s Golf and these amazing women we have on campus today, as well as those we’re bringing in,” Batiste said. “Over the past 11 years, we’ve had some amazing accomplishments on and off the golf course. We’re going to continue to build and put this program in a position to win.”

UTSA also has taken care of business in the classroom under Batiste’s leadership with 17 conference all-academic team selections and 15 Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar awards during her tenure. The program placed 37 student-athletes on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll over a six-year stretch while collecting a total of 14 C-USA Academic Medals for a 3.75-or-better cumulative GPA. They also have received three NCAA Public Recognition Awards for posting an Academic Progress Rate among the top 10 percent nationally within the sport.

Batiste was a four-year letterwinner for the Roadrunners and served as team captain her final two seasons (2011-12). She earned second-team All-Southland Conference honors in both 2010 and 2011, and she helped lead UTSA to the program’s first two league titles and NCAA postseason appearances in 2011 and 2012.

The Roadrunners will tee off the season on Sept. 8-9 when they travel to Corinth, Texas, for the Sam Golden Invitational, which will be hosted by North Texas at Oakmont Country Club.
