SAN ANTONIO – As UTSA men’s basketball begins early workouts for the 2025-26 season, second-year head coach Austin Claunch announced another addition to the Roadrunners’ staff on Monday, bringing aboard Jacob Klee as the director of operations.
“We’re excited to welcome Jacob Klee to our program,” Claunch said. “Jacob has worked for and with some of the best basketball minds in the business and came to us highly recommended. With over seven years of operations and video experience at the highest levels, he will be invaluable to the continued development of our program.”
Klee comes to San Antonio following two years as assistant director of basketball operations at the University of Miami under coach Jim Larrañaga. For the Roadrunners, Klee will head up the team’s operations, video and team/scouting analytics efforts. Quentin Thomas will continue to serve the Roadrunners as an assistant coach.
“I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to join the men’s basketball program at UTSA,” Klee said. “I am grateful to Coach Claunch and the staff for their belief in me. I believe in Claunch’s vision for this program and where we are headed in the future. I am excited to be in San Antonio to support the student-athletes and staff to allow them to succeed at the highest level.”
Before Coral Gables, Klee was an assistant coach with operations, game planning/scouting, equipment and video responsibilities at Western Connecticut State men’s basketball (2022-23), helping the Wolves win 19 of their first 20 games, finishing with a 22-5 record and an appearance in the Little East Conference championship game. Before taking up a full-time role on the Wolves’ staff, Klee served as a graduate assistant at Kansas City where he earned his master’s degree in higher education administration and was responsible for the Roos’ day-to-day operations and video, moving into the acting director of basketball operations role in his second year (2021-22) and taking on team travel and the logistics of planning an Italian tour.
Prior to getting started in Kansas City, Klee added more breadth to his experience serving as an intern for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in the fall of 2021, as director of operations for Guy Rancourt USA East Coast Basketball in the summer of 2021 and as a counselor at Jim Larrañaga Basketball Camp in the summers of 2018 and 2019.
While earning his undergraduate degree at Miami in business management, Klee was a quick riser after becoming part of the Hurricanes’ basketball program as a student manager in September 2017, promoted to assistant head manager in August 2018. Just five months later, in January 2019, Klee was elevated to head student manager, becoming the youngest person in the position during head coach Jim Larrañaga’s tenure. The Roslyn Heights, N.Y., native worked in that capacity until his graduation in May 2020, managing the equipment room, coordinating logistics and supervising the student manager staff.
