SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will continue its fall slate this Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 15-16, at the Highlands Invitational, which will be hosted by East Tennessee State at Chicago Highlands Club in Westchester, Illinois.
The Roadrunners will travel a lineup of Joshua Hong, Logan Vargas, Brayden Bare, Logan Zurn and Francisco Solorza. UTSA will face teams from Coastal Carolina, Davidson, DePaul, East Tennessee State, Eastern Michigan, Iowa, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Loyola Chicago, VCU, Wake Forest and Yale.
The field will play 36 holes on Monday and the final round is scheduled for Tuesday, Live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
This will mark the first time the Roadrunners have played in this tournament and the program’s first event in the state of Illinois.
UTSA is coming off a 12th-place finish at the Argent Financial Classic last week in Louisiana. The Roadrunners carded a at 1-over-par 865 (292-289-284) at their season-opening tournament behind a top-10 showing from Hong. The freshman from Guadalajara, Mexico, fired a 7-under 209 after opening with a pair of 70s and closing with a 3-under 69 in his UTSA debut.
Vargas, a senior from Lubbock, finished at even-par 216, good for a tie for 41st. He opened with a 72 and then carded his best round with a 1-under 71 before closing the week with a 73.
Bare was one shot behind in a tie for 48th at 1-over 217. The junior out of Waco posted an improvement in each of his final two rounds, a 1-over 73 followed by a 3-under 69.
Solorza tied for 84th (224) that featured a 1-over 73 in the final round.
This will be Zurn’s first appearance of the campaign. The senior from Grapevine, Texas, registered a 74.04 stroke average last season and qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship over the summer.
