Roadrunners set to compete in NDSU/UND Tournament

SAN ANTONIO – The Roadrunners (2-3) are set to compete in the NDSU/UND Tournament starting at 12 p.m. against Kent State (2-4) at Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in Grand Forks, N.D., on Thursday, Sept. 11. UTSA will then play North Dakota at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11. UTSA will take on Idaho on Friday, Sept. 12, at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse in Fargo, N.D. at 12 p.m. to close out the NDSU/UND Tournament.

This will be the Roadrunners’ second road trip of the season after closing out a 2-1 weekend at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational. UTSA has two neutral-site matches coming up; they are currently 2-0 in neutral matches.  

The Roadrunners have never played Kent State or North Dakota in program history. UTSA has played Idaho in five matches, with Idaho holding the advantage with three wins. The Roadrunners are 1-1 against the Vandals in neutral-site matches.

The UTSA lineup will feature freshman Taylor Gaines, who was awarded American Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday, Sept. 8.

Three Roadrunners have recorded a double-double this season: Ilaria Durante, Ally Tribe, and Megan Hawkins. Tribe and Durante have both recorded two double-doubles, both of which were against Texas State and DePaul.  Hawkins tallied her first double-double wearing a UTSA jersey against Missouri State.

Freshman Defensive specialist Giada Obregon leads the team in double-digit dig games with four under her belt. Freshman Gaines is leading the Roadrunners in double-digit kill games with three.

Caroline Tredwell is leading the team in attacks (by PCT) blocks per set and is tied for first in receptions by PCT. Tribe is leading the team in Kills and points per set. Hawkins leads the team in assists per set. Freshman Obregon leads the team in digs per set.
