SAN ANTONIO – Roadrunners fall to Stephen F. Austin 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-26) in their season opener on Friday, Aug. 29 at the Convocations Center.
SET ONE
UTSA jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the first set until the Ladyjacks went on a five-point run to take their first lead of the match. Both teams traded blows, with the Ladyjacks winning the race to 20 before managing to win the first set 25-17.
The Roadrunners tallied 10 total kills in the first set on 46 attacks. Ally Tribe and Gigi Mason each had three kills to lead the team after the first set. Freshman libero Giada Obregon got her first collegiate start, notching a perfect reception percentage in the first set. Caroline Krueger recorded seven digs in the first set to lead the team.
SET TWO
SFA took an early lead on the back of a six-point scoring run to go up 11-3. SFA then grabbed another 6-point surge to go up 17-4. The Ladyjacks held control over the set, going on to win the second set 25-12 to go up2-0 over the Roadrunners.
After the second set, the Tribe led the team in points with seven, which included five kills and two solo blocks.
SET THREE
The Roadrunners went on a three-point scoring run to start the third set of the match. SFA answered with a four-point run of their own to take a 7-5 lead. Both teams battled late in the match, with the Roadrunners scoring their 16th point before SFA went on a 7-point surge to win the third set 25-16.
NOTES
- Three Roadrunners made their collegiate debuts in Obregon, Taylor Gaines and Gigi Mason.
- Brooke Elliott, Megan Hawkins and Ilaria Durante all made their UTSA debut.
- Krueger led the match in digs with 14.
- Tribe led both teams in attacks.
