UTSA Softball Broadcast Team Nominated for Golden Mic Awards

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA’s standout softball television broadcast team of Alex Loeb and Cat Osterman are up for several D1Softball Golden Mic Awards, which recognize excellence in softball broadcasting.

Loeb (play-by-play) and Osterman (analyst) call the Roadrunners’ home games on ESPN+. Loeb recently completed his first season in UTSA’s broadcast booth, while Osterman has called the Roadrunners’ games for two seasons. The duo also works together on national ESPN linear broadcasts, has called countless games together for ESPN’s Longhorn Network and has been selected to announce multiple NCAA Regionals for ESPN.

As a team, Loeb and Osterman are up for the Best Broadcast Team award for their work on ESPN linear television. They also are nominees for the Best Local Booth for announcing UTSA Softball.

Loeb is a nominee for the Best Local Play-by-Play and Osterman for the Best Local Analyst.

Fans may vote for the awards online through Wednesday, August 27 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Osterman is one of the most decorated softball players in the history of the sport. She is a former three-time collegiate National Player of the Year and four-time All-American at the University of Texas. Osterman helped lead the Longhorns to the Women’s College World Series in 2003, 2005 and 2006. She became the only softball player to win USA Softball’s National Player of the Year honors three times. Osterman led the United States Women’s National Team to the gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games and the silver medal at the 2008 and 2020 Olympic Games. She served as an assistant coach at Texas State from 2015-20.

Loeb has been a play-by-play announcer and host for ESPN since August 2015. He served as a play-by-play announcer for many of the Longhorn Network’s 175 live events per year. He’s also called numerous sports for ESPN linear networks, including men’s and women’s college basketball, volleyball and softball. He has also previously served as an anchor at WPLG in Miami and was the Sports Director at KSAN in San Angelo, Texas.
