SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Athletics and Ancira Auto Group have entered into an expanded partnership, which includes Ancira becoming the official on-field sponsor for UTSA Football, it was announced Saturday.
Ancira, one of the premier leading dealer groups in San Antonio that has served all of South Texas since 1972, will display its signature red and white logo on the 25-yard lines at the Alamodome for UTSA home football games as part of a three-year agreement.
Ancira’s expanded partnership also includes Name, Image and Likeness opportunities for UTSA student-athletes. Ancira will continue its traditional sponsorship elements, including new in-game activations in 2025, as well as operating the dealer-car program for UTSA Athletics.
“April Ancira and the Ancira Auto Group have been tremendous supporters of UTSA Athletics and have been fully committed to championing student-athletes in all of our sport programs,” said Lisa Campos, UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. “Whether it's through corporate sponsorships, philanthropy or NIL collectives, Ancira has been a tremendous partner in driving the trajectory of UTSA Athletics. I am grateful for this expanded partnership, which includes this innovative field sponsorship.”
Ancira becomes the first-ever field sponsor for UTSA Football, following a rule change by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel in June 2024 that permits corporate advertisements on collegiate football fields in an effort to generate additional revenue to support student-athletes.
“The minute UTSA announced it would be adding football as a sport, I immediately reached out to former AD Lynn Hickey and said, ‘I don’t know who you are going to pick as the first head coach but you can count on a vehicle from Ancira,’” said April Ancira, Vice President of Ancira Auto Group. “I knew what this could mean for UTSA and San Antonio. That is where our relationship with UTSA Athletics began. I have watched UTSA Football bring 56,000 fans and alumni together and draw a national spotlight. I feel with that engagement and attention other sports have been lifted, new facilities are being built, more advancements and growth have happened in academics and UTSA has increased the talent of individuals entering the San Antonio job market. There is no end to the magic that football and athletics in general can bring to students, alumni and an entire city. It has been fun to grow with UTSA and I think we are still just getting started. This field sponsorship is our way of saying, ‘we are here for the long haul.’”
The expanded partnership was facilitated by UTSA Sports Properties, a division of Playfly Sports led by General Manager Robert Stockhausen.
“The Ancira Family of Dealerships and the Anciras have been stalwart supporters of UTSA Athletics,” Stockhausen said. “Their UTSA field sponsorship symbolizes their tremendous commitment to the community and Roadrunners everywhere. As Ancira expands across Texas, sports fans all over the state will know Ancira as a leader in cars, trucks and RVs. What's more, Roadrunner fans will love their new fan-fun promotions - the Ancira Cash Cannon and the Ancira Punt For A Pickup - which will add thrills to the UTSA game day experience.”
