Guzman to compete in Junior Pan Am Games

SAN ANTONIO – Running right up against the start of his first semester at UTSA, Roadrunners track and field signee David Guzman will be representing his home country this week in Paraguay during the 2025 Junior Pan American Games.

Guzman is originally from Querataro, Mexico and was just announced as a transfer from Texas A&M-Kingsville. He is set to compete for Mexico in both the shot put and discus throw at this week’s 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay. The Mexico U20 shot put record holder and 2022 and 2023 U20 National Champion, Guzman just earned bronze medals in both events at the all-classes Mexican Championships. In July, he collected silver in the shot put and also a discus bronze at the Olimpiada Nacional Conade 2025 National U23 Championships.

With the entire field of competition battling local weather in Asunción, Guzman is scheduled to compete in the shot put at 3:30 p.m. CST (5:30 p.m. local) on Tuesday, Aug. 19, followed up by a discus performance at 2:15 p.m. CST (4:15 p.m. local) on Friday, Aug. 22 at the Estadio de Atletismo on the Secretaría Nacional de Deportes campus.

Results from this week’s competitions in Asunción can be found here upon completion.

Guzman just finished a stellar rookie season for the Javelinas, earning First Team All-America honors with a seventh-place shot put finish (17.73m/58-2) and Second Team All-America ninth-place discus finish (54.12m/177-7) at the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Pueblo, Colorado. He also finished 11th place for a Second Team All-America finish in the shot put on a toss of 17.47m (57-3.75) at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Indianapolis. He recorded a season-best 18.10m (59-4.75) in the weight throw at the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Indoor Last Chance and logged his best discus measurement of 55.20m (181-1) on a bronze-medal performance at the 2025 Texas Invitational.
