ATLANTA — UTSA redshirt junior Camron Cooper has been named to the watch list for the 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, Allstate and the Wuerffel Foundation announced Thursday.
Cooper, who was named a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team earlier this month, is one of a record 116 nominees to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, recognizing college football players from across the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) who exemplify community service, academic excellence and athletic achievement.
Cooper’s volunteer record spans a wide array of impactful efforts. Through UTSA’s Rowdy Readers program, he has read to and mentored Virginia Meyers Elementary students during the school year. He has helped brighten the lives of patients at Christus Children’s Hospital with regular visits. He also has served as a course monitor for the Diploma Dash, supported the San Antonio Food Bank and participated in the Get in the Game, Save a Life Campaign. He mentors youth at local sporting events and is an active member of UTSA’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). During the football team’s 2023 trip to the Frisco Bowl near Dallas, he volunteered his time to help build food care packages at Frisco Fastpacs, a non-profit that delivers individual, prepacked meal bags of non-perishable food to more than 70 Frisco ISD schools to provide meals for children to have over the weekend.
On the field, Cooper played in all 13 games last season, seeing time at both outside linebacker and on several special teams units. He posted a season-high four tackles in his first career start at No. 22 Army, and he blocked a punt for the first time as a Roadrunner in the 38-24 home triumph over Florida Atlantic. The Dayton High School product recorded two tackles, including a sack, and caused a fumble at Tulsa, and he also logged a sack in the 51-27 victory against Temple. He closed the campaign with a pair of stops in the 44-15 win against Coastal Carolina in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.
Widely regarded as college football’s premier award for community service, the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy celebrates student-athletes who use their platforms to serve others and create positive change. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winner and University of Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel, who turned his football success into a lifelong mission of service, the award reflects his legacy of leadership and humanitarianism. This year marks the 21stanniversary of the trophy’s founding.
“Every year, I’m deeply moved by these student-athletes,” said Wuerffel. “They lead with their heart. Each of our nominees is making a real difference in the lives of others, and their stories remind us what true greatness looks like.”
For the second consecutive year, the Wuerffel Foundation is partnering with Allstate to unite college football’s top community service honors through the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®. Eleven student-athletes from the Watch List will be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and serve as semifinalists for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy.
The 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy finalists and recipient will be selected by a national voting committee, with input from a fan vote. The 2025 recipient will also serve as Captain of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards show on Dec. 12, airing on ESPN. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala will follow on Jan. 31, 2026, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
For the second year, Allstate is partnering with the Wuerffel Foundation to align two of college football’s most meaningful honors: the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy. Together, they recognize student-athletes who demonstrate excellence in community service, academics and athletics.
The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which encompasses college football’s most prestigious awards. The NCFAA’s 25 awards have honored more than 900 recipients since 1935.
