Zurn fires 68 at qualifier to earn berth in U.S. Amateur

ROCKWALL, Texas — UTSA rising senior Logan Zurn fired a 4-under-par 68 to tie for fifth place at a U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifier on Monday at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club and earn a spot in the 125th U.S. Amateur Championship field.

Sitting several places below the cut line at 1-under par entering the final stretch, Zurn birdied his final three holes to move into qualifying position and secure a trip to the West Coast next month.

A native of Grapevine, Zurn started his day with a birdie on the 415-yard, par-4 first. He later countered a bogey on No. 7 with a two on the 175-yard eighth, finishing the front nine at 1-under par.

Zurn opened the back with his third birdie of the day to get to 2-under for the round before settling for a bogey on the 165-yard, par-3 14th. He rebounded from that with his trio of consecutive circled numbers on Nos. 16-18 to finish at 4-under.

Zurn ended up sharing fifth with two other players, one shot out third place and three strokes off the lead.
