SAN ANTONIO – Senior outfielder Mason Lytle signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Houston Astros on Wednesday, July 23.
Lytle is the 21st Roadrunner to sign an undrafted free agent deal. He is the first UTSA student-athlete to sign an UDFA contract with the Houston Astros and the third student-athlete to sign a UDFA contract this year.
Lytle had a stellar year as he was selected as the 2025 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, AAC Defensive Player of the Year and 2025 ABCA/Rawlings All-Central Team.
The ABCA/Rawlings All-American Third Team member set several records for the Roadrunners as he now holds the program’s singles season records for games played, games started, at-bats and runs.
Lytle batted .366 on the year with a .560 slugging percentage and a .424 on-base percentage. Lytle had 150 total bases, with 68 RBIs to his name. He recorded a .357 batting average in his time with the Roadrunners, with 111 RBIs and an outstanding 183 Hits.
