Get to know UTSA women's golf student-athlete Olivia Williams in this Q&A.
Q: Why did you choose UTSA?
Olivia Williams: "I chose UTSA because the facilities are amazing and the coaches really care about their players. I also love the team culture and the opportunities both on and off the golf course."
Q: What do you like most about being a student-athlete at UTSA?
Olivia Williams: "One of the things I enjoy most about being a student-athlete at UTSA is having access to practice at TPC San Antonio. It's such a high-quality facility and it really motivates me to keep pushing myself to improve."
Q: How did you first get involved in playing golf?
Olivia Williams: "I first got involved in golf when I was about 9 years old. My dad would take me to the driving range and I started to really enjoy it. Eventually, I convinced him to take me out on the course and, from there, I just fell in love with the game."
Q: What are you majoring in and what do you hope to do following your athletic career?
Olivia Williams: "I'm majoring in psychology with a minor in business management. After my athletic career, I'm really interested in working in the field of sports psychology or business within the sports industry. I'd love to help other athletes with the mental side of competition because I know from experience how important that is."
Q: What is an interesting fact about you that most people might not know?
Olivia Williams: "I'm a black belt in Taekwondo. I did it for several years growing up and it really helped me develop discipline, focus and mental toughness. I am very fortunate to have learned these life skills from a young age."
Q: Who has been the most influential person in your life?
Olivia Williams: "The most influential person in my life has been my dad. He's always supported me in everything I've done from golf to school to life in general. He's taught me the value of hard work, resilience and staying grounded, and he's been a huge part of my journey."
Q: Who is your sports hero?
Olivia Williams: "My sports hero and role model is Jessica Ennis-Hill. I've always admired her not just for her achievements, like winning gold at the London 2012 Olympics and silver in Rio in 2016, but for the way she carried herself throughout her career. She showed incredible resilience coming back from injuries and later returning to the top of her sport after becoming a mother. I really respect how she handled pressure with so much class and how she never gave up on her goals, no matter what challenges she faced."
