SAN ANTONIO – The 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships are set to get under way this week at Fana Stadion in Bergen, Norway. The UTSA track and field team is well-represented in Norway, with five Roadrunners from the 2025 roster and one incoming freshman appearing in the competition: Ida Breigan, Selma Ims, Rachela Pace, Edlin Laur, Mia Lien and Roadrunner-to-be Hendrik Kookmaa.

Sophomore All-American long jumper Breigan will represent Norway with the competition in her home country. The Frederikstad native is scheduled to compete in the long jump on Saturday, July 19, at 11:30 a.m. locally (4:30 a.m. CDT). Breigan is a three-time All-American for the Roadrunners and earned Most Outstanding Field Performance at The American Championships, both indoor and outdoor, sweeping the long jump titles this season – now a two-time AAC indoor champion. Breigan is the current UTSA, AAC and Norwegian indoor long jump record holder, collecting the UTSA outdoor standard while reaching a career-best 6.74m (22-1.5) measurement. At the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships, Breigan collected her third All-America certificate with second-team recognition for her 10th-place jump of 6.35m (20-10). She just earned silver at the European Athletics Team Championships Second Division in Maribor, Slovenia on June 28.
Freshman Ims is set for the 400-meter hurdles race on Thursday, July 17, at 10:15 a.m. locally (3:15 a.m. CDT) while also representing Norway. The next round in the event is set for 4:50 p.m. (9:50 a.m. CDT) on Friday. The Sandnes native will also join the Norwegian 4x400-meter squad in relay action to close out the meet on Sunday, July 20, at 7:15 p.m. local time (12:15 p.m. CDT). Ims earned the silver in the 400-meter hurdles at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships with a career-best 57.13 clocking, also helping UTSA’s 4x400-meter relay to a runner-up finish at both the indoor and outdoor conference meets.
A spring 2025 graduate and indoor/outdoor American Athletic Conference reigning triple jump champion, Pace is competing for Malta and will compete in both the triple jump on Thursday at 4:05 p.m. (9:05 a.m. CDT) and long jump on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (4:30 a.m. CDT). Coming out of Dingli, Pace earned her sixth and seventh Maltese Championships, picking up gold in both her events in Marsa on July 5-6. Pace won the AAC Outdoor title with a 13.41m (44-0) triple jump and AAC Indoor gold on a 12.93m (42-5.25) measurement – also earning silver outdoors in long jump with a career-best 6.48m (21-3.25). She holds the UTSA outdoor triple jump record at 13.46m (44-2) and set the Maltese national outdoor records in both events via her top UTSA marks this season. She wrapped her NCAA career with a Second Team All-America finish of 16th in the triple jump in Eugene, Oregon.
The high jump will provide a double-dose for the Roadrunners, as sophomore Laur is repping Estonia while redshirt freshman All-American Lien is the third Norwegian competitor. The Roadrunner tandem’s event will be contested at 7:15 p.m. locally (12:15 p.m. CDT). Coming out of Tallinn, Laur set the UTSA record in the event at 1.82m (5-11.5) and won the 2025 Estonian U23 Championships on July 3 in Rakvere. Lien hails from Jakobsli and broke Laur’s record this season at 1.83m (6-0). She earned the silver medal at the AAC Outdoor Championships and was a Second Team All-American at 13th in the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She also earned second place in the high jump and won the pentathlon at AAC Indoors, before going on to a Second Team All-America 14th-place pentathlon performance at NCAAs. Lien captured high jump gold at the European Athletics Team Championships Second Division to close out June on a 1.83m height.
Inbound to San Antonio this fall from Saue, Estonia, Kookma is set to compete in the discus field on Thursday at 9:55 a.m. local time (2:55 a.m. CDT). He just won the discus at the Estonia U23 Championships and finished 14th in the event at the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru – holding a top measurement of 58.64m (192-4.75).
