KOMOKA, Ontario — UTSA incoming freshman Kayla Black fired a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday to win a qualifying tournament and earn a spot in the 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

A native of Mississauga, Ontario who signed with UTSA last fall, Black recorded five birdies en route to her red number at a qualifier held on the 6,283-yard, par-72 FireRock Golf Club in Komoka, Ontario.

Black logged back-to-back birdies on the 498-yard, par-5 first and the 343-yard, par-4 second holes. She also birdied the 371-yard, par-4 fourth and the 168-yard, par-3 eighth as part of a 32 on the front nine. She had a birdie on the 518-yard, par-5 16th to help offset a double bogey on the 13th and a bogey on the 18th.

The U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship will be held on Aug. 4-10 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon.
