UTSA begins competition Wednesday at NCAA Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – The UTSA track and field squad will have three student-athletes in competition this week at historic Hayward Field for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, contested Wednesday to Saturday, June 11-14. Appearing for the Roadrunners will be Hugo Menin, Mia Lien and Rachela Pace.

With exception of the heptathlon on Friday and Saturday, men's competition will take place on Wednesday and Friday, while the women will compete on Thursday and Saturday in their quests for UTSA’s first individual national titles.

Kicking off UTSA’s appearance at the NCAA National Championships on Wednesday, June 11, senior transfer Hugo Menin is set to compete in the 400m hurdles semifinal at 8:14 p.m. CDT (6:15 p.m. PDT) at Hayward Field. Transferring from Tarleton State this season, the Cysoing, France native will make his first appearance at NCAA Nationals, finishing sixth at the NCAA West First Round in College Station, Texas. Listing at second in the UTSA all-time performances with a 49.61 clocking, Menin will appear in the second heat of the semis. The top 2 from each heat plus the next 3 best will move on to Friday’s final.

Taking up the first appearance of this week’s championships for the UTSA women, redshirt freshman Mia Lien extends her phenomenal rookie season in the heptathlon, with competition spanning Friday and Saturday, June 13-14. Entering the week ranked 11th overall in the NCAA while scoring a school-record 5,741 points in early April at Texas A&M, Lien finished as the silver medalist at the American Athletic Conference Championships. The heptathlon competition schedule for the Jakobsli, Norway rookie is as follows: 100m hurdles (Friday 1:45 p.m. CDT/11:45 a.m. PDT), high jump (Friday 2:45 p.m. CDT/12:45 p.m. PDT), shot put (Friday 4:45 p.m. CDT/2:45 p.m. PDT), 200m (Friday 8:43 p.m. CDT/6:43 p.m. PDT), long jump (Saturday 5:30 p.m. CDT/3:30 p.m. PDT), javelin (Saturday 6:45 p.m. CDT/4:45 p.m. PDT) and 800m (Saturday 9:43 p.m. CDT/7:43 p.m. PDT).

Also on the docket for the Roadrunner women, 2025 AAC champion triple jumper Rachela Pace is making her first NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance on Saturday. Pace set the Malta National Record for the third time and breaking UTSA’s record with a 13.46m (44-2) measurement at the NCAA West First Round, where she finished 10th overall. A senior transfer from Fresno State and Dingli, Malta, Pace is set to jump on Saturday at 8:10 p.m. CDT/6:10 p.m. PDT.
