‘Runners come up short against Bulls, 4-3

TAMPA, Fla. – On Saturday, the UTSA softball team fell to South Florida, 4-3, in American Athletic Conference action at the USF Softball Stadium.

The Roadrunners (21-32, 6-20 The American) came up short against the Bulls (40-14-1, 19-6-1 The American), as freshman Reagan Stoudt (1-9) was pegged with the loss and Anne Long (6-4) earned the win. Junior Katia Reyes launched a home run in the effort, while sophomore Caton Letbetter joined her in logging an RBI.

UTSA took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second, as senior Jaylen Prichard doubled before sophomore Sydney McReynolds pinch ran and scored on a USF miscue. The Bulls bounced back in the home half, knotting the contest, 1-1.

Stoudt kept the Bulls off the board for the following three frames, prompting Reyes to blast a two-out home run to carry a 2-1 advantage into the bottom of the sixth. USF again replied, this time taking advantage of a UTSA error to snag a 3-2 edge in the home half.

The ‘Runners threatened in the top of the seventh, as junior Madison Hornback worked a walk and senior Camryn Robillard reached base safely with one out. A strikeout followed, and Letbetter worked a pinch-hit RBI single to extend the contest. The Bulls, however, found a way, plating a run with two outs in the bottom of the inning for a 4-3 walk-off victory.

The two teams will meet once more, with the regular season finale set for Sunday at 3 p.m. CT.
