TAMPA, Fla. – The UTSA softball team suffered an 11-0 run rule defeat at the hands of South Florida in an American Athletic Conference series opener on Friday at the USF Softball Stadium.
The Roadrunners (21-31, 6-19 The American) fell to the Bulls (39-14-1, 18-6-1 The American), as freshman Ava Eldridge (8-9) was pegged with the loss and Payton Dixon (19-6) earned the win. For UTSA, senior Jaylen Prichard and sophomore Kalee Rochinski each logged hits.
The Bulls took a 1-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the first and later loaded up the bases before Eldridge worked out of the jam without any further damage. She then kept USF off the scoreboard for the following two innings before they exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth to build an 11-0 advantage.
UTSA was unable to spark a comeback, falling via the run rule, and will look to bounce back on Saturday with a 4 p.m. CT first pitch ahead of the series finale on Sunday at 3 p.m.
