UTSA soccer 2025 conference slate announced

SAN ANTONIO – Entering the eighth year under head coach Derek Pittman and the 20th season of Roadrunner soccer, UTSA unveiled its 10-game American Athletic Conference slate for the Roadrunners’ third season in the league. The Roadrunners will play five conference games at home in the friendly confines of the Park West Athletics Complex.

The 2025 Roadrunners are looking for even more growth from their second season in the AAC, finishing 8-7-3 overall for their fourth consecutive season finishing at .500 or better. The Roadrunners finished eighth in the league and narrowly missed the conference tournament on tiebreakers initiated by the least likely scenarios coming to fruition. Overall, the Roadrunners are 37-26-15 across the last four years, covering one of the most successful stretches since the program’s inception in 2006.

After racking up nearly a 70 percent (21-8-6) win rate over the past four seasons, Roadrunner fans have transformed the Park West Athletics Complex into a formidable place to play. Putting up phenomenal attendance numbers, UTSA has registered three of the top five historic UTSA attendance totals and average attendance counts over the past four years – as well as all five 1,000-plus attended games in Park West history. UTSA has also led The American in average attendance during both seasons in the league.

Factor the high attendance with the AAC’s top three programs playing in San Antonio next season, and fans can expect exciting competition in 2025 with a five-game home AAC schedule, including four night games at Park West.

The AAC schedule for UTSA opens on the road, as the Roadrunners travel to Florida Atlantic on Thursday, Sept. 11, in Boca Raton. Including UTSA’s Halloween 2-1 comeback win in San Antonio last year, the Roadrunners have topped or tied FAU in each of the last four outings. The Owls are coming off a challenging 3-11-4 finish.

In the 2025 AAC home opener, North Texas returns to Park West for the sixth time in the 17-year series on Thursday, Sept. 18. The Roadrunners and Mean Green tied 2-2 last season in Denton and UNT finished 7-6-6 overall.

Back on the road on Thursday, Sept. 25, the Roadrunners travel to Birmingham, Alabama to face the UAB Blazers, who finished fifth in last season’s standings at 7-5-5 overall.

Charlotte is the next league squad to hit the field at Park West, coming to San Antonio to close out the month on Sunday, Sept. 28. Last season in Charlotte saw a tightly contested 0-0 draw that extended UTSA’s stretch against CLT to four outings without a loss. The 49ers collected key wins and draws at home to finish sixth in the conference but struggled on the road at 2-4-2.

Always a big week for both programs, UTSA opens the new month with a trip to Houston and Rice on Thursday, Oct. 2 Coming up to 12-6-2 overall and 5-4-1 in league play, the Owls were fourth in the standings a year ago. Extending UTSA’s most-active series to its 17th meeting, the outcome has been decided by a single goal in six of the last seven meetings, and the Roadrunners registered victories in each of the past two trips to Houston – which will provide a homecoming for six Roadrunners from the Houston area.

The final three home contests are against 2024’s reigning top AAC rosters, beginning with second-ranked South Florida on Thursday, Oct. 9. Edging out a nail-biting 1-0 finish over UTSA last season in Tampa for the third consecutive one-goal ending, the Bulls were 12-2-5 overall and 6-1-5 a year ago.

A trip to Pittman’s home territory to face his alma mater in Tulsa follows on Sunday, Oct. 19, facing a Golden Hurricane team that finished 7-9-4 last year.

A proven battle every time out on the pitch, a likely ranked Memphis squad comes to Park West on Thursday, Oct. 23. Despite the Tiger’s role as the AAC’s offensive standard-bearer, UTSA has quieted Memphis in each of their only two meetings, with the Tigers squeaking out a 1-0 win both times. The regular season AAC Champion last year, Memphis dropped a double-overtime thriller to East Carolina in the AAC Tournament and missed the NCAAs for the first time since 2017.

Back-to-back home dates with the league’s top teams, as East Carolina comes to Park West for the home finale on Sunday, Oct. 26. The Roadrunners went to Greenville last year and emerged with a key 2-0 road victory in the first series meeting. After falling to the Roadrunners, ECU went 4-1-3 heading into the AAC Championships, going 2-1 in the Lakewood Ranch, Florida tournament, including a title win over top-seeded Memphis that sent the Pirates to their first program NCAA appearance. The Pirates finished third in the regular season on a 10-4-7 overall record.

The regular season concludes on the Road for UTSA, traveling to Temple for an October 30th showdown at Temple, which went 2-17 in 2024. The Roadrunners have registered a 5-0 scoring differential against the Owls in the lone two series meetings since joining the AAC.

The Roadrunners’ non-conference schedule is nearly finalized and will be announced at a later date.

The American Athletic Conference Championships are again to be hosted at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., Nov. 3-9, with the NCAA Tournament set to kick off Nov. 14 and run through the NCAA College Cup, hosted in early December in Kansas City, Mo. at CPKC Stadium, home of the Kansas City Current.
