SAN ANTONIO – The track and field outdoor postseason begins this week for the UTSA Roadrunners, traveling to the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, to be held Thursday-Saturday, May 15-17, at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Live coverage is slated on ESPN+.
Heading to this year’s championships will be a 37-Roadrunner roster slated for competition across the next three days at the world-class track facility in the Queen City. The women’s squad enters the meet at 44th nationally and holding the No. 2 long jump squad in the nation, but returns no outdoor champions from last season at the Park West Athletics Complex. Ida Breigan finished second in the long jump in 2023-24 after winning indoors. On the men’s side, the Roadrunners have no reigning champions from last year, but Jemuel Miller earned the silver in the triple jump in 2023-24. During the indoor championships, the women’s squad fell just 3.5 points shy of the championship, racking up a 92.5 total for the runner-up finish. The UTSA women collected indoor individual titles for Breigan (long jump), Rachela Pace (triple jump), Nyaluet Diew (shot put) and Mia Lien (pentathlon), also grabbing four to the top five spots in the long jump with Breigan followed by Oreoluwa Adamson (second), Pace (fourth) and Brina Likar (fifth). The two men’s individual titleholders will not be heading to Charlotte this weekend, having completed their eligibility. The UTSA men finished seventh at the Indoor Championships.
Last year in San Antonio, UTSA men finished fifth and the women were 10th. Heading into the weekend, the Roadrunners have seven conference standings leaders: Hugo Menin (400m hurdles, 49.77), Selma Ims (400m hurdles, 57.40), Mia Lien (high jump, 1.83m/heptathlon, 5,741 points), Breigan (long jump, 6.37m), Pace (triple jump, 13.29m) and Diew (shot put, 16.22m).
