BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Roadrunners split with UAB in the Saturday doubleheader, UTSA won game one 6-3 before falling 6-13 in the second game on Saturday, Apr. 5, at Young Memorial Field in Birmingham, Ala.
GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: UTSA 6, UAB 3

In the second inning, UAB took a 1-0 lead on a throwing error that went into the UAB dugout, allowing the runner to score, who took third on a fly-out. UAB then extended their lead in the third on a sacrifice fly.
Andrew Stucky picked up his seventh double of the season with two outs for the Roadrunners’ third hit of the ballgame in the fourth. He was then brought home on a Norris McClure single to right field to give UTSA their first run of the game.
UAB extended their lead in the fourth to 3-1 on a solo homer. In the top of the seventh, Jordan Ballin started things with a double down the left-field line. Caden Miller followed that double up with one of his own scoring Ballin to put UTSA down by one.
With Miller on second, Mason Lytle beat out an infield single hit to the first baseman. Miller took third easily on the infield single but wanted more and was able to reach home safely, tying the game at 3-3. With Lytle on second, Drew Detlefsen picked up his third homer of the weekend to put UTSA up 5-3.
In the ninth, Ballin singled up the middle to lead the inning off. Ty Hodge then singled to advance Ballin to second. Miller was then hit by the pitch to load the bases for the Roadrunners. Lytle was able to add some insurance for UTSA as he hit a sacrifice fly to score Ballin making the game 6-3.
Christian Okerholm came into the game in relief and threw four innings giving up just one run on two hits with one strikeout. Connor Kelley threw one hitless inning. Robert Orloski finished out the game and didn’t allow a hit striking out two batters.
GAME TWO
THE BASICS:

In the top of the third, Diego Diaz picked up his first homer of the year and third of his career on a leadoff blast to right field to put the Roadrunners up 1-0. UAB then took the lead in the third on a two-RBI double to go up 2-1.
McClure led the fourth inning off with a walk, a single by Ballin advanced him to second. A flyout by T. Hodge allowed McClure to tag and take third. N. Hodge pinch hit for Diaz and picked up an RBI on a sacrifice bunt, scoring McClure and tying the game at 2-2.
Lytle led the top of the fifth off with a walk and was able to take second on a stolen base. Taussig gave UTSA the lead by going to the opposite field, driving a ball to left center that scored Lytle. Stucky was then able to switch places with Taussig, hitting his own double to score Taussig, putting UTSA up 4-2.
UAB was able to tie the game once again on a two-RBI double in the bottom of the fifth. The lead did not last long as T. Hodge was able to lead the inning off with a single. A walk by N. Hodge put two aboard. Miller drove in the go-ahead run on a single to right center scoring T. Hodge putting UTSA up 5-4.
In the eighth, Lytle got things started as he doubled to left field. Taussig drew a walk to put Lytle on a second. Lytle was able to take third on a wild pitch, and then a throwing error by UAB’s catcher allowed Lytle to score, putting UTSA up 6-4.
UAB put up nine runs in the bottom of the eighth, leading to a 13-6 victory.
