Women’s 4x400m tops Mt. SAC day two performances for UTSA

WALNUT, Calif. – Friday’s heavier schedule at the 65th Mt. SAC relays amped up the amount of Roadrunners in competition at Hilmer Lodge Stadium, with a wide array of several field events, sprints, distance and relays in action. The top UTSA performances of the day belonged to the women’s 4x400m relay, Brina Likar, Kyla Hill and Victor Charo.

The best performance of the delay was dealt out in nearly the last event of the night for the Roadrunners, as the 4x400m relay quartet of Selma Ims, Nayanna Dubarry-Gay, Fatoumata Kabo and Ida Breigan not only won the event, but produced the second-fastest time in UTSA history with a 3:38.17 clocking.

Earlier in the evening, Golnik, Slovenia freshman Likar produced an outdoor season-best 6.07m (19-11) measurement on her first attempt of the meet to earn the bronze in only her second career outdoor meet at UTSA.

The top men’s mark of the day was registered by Abilene, Texas junior Charo in the 800m, crossing the line in fourth with an outdoor season-best 1:51.23. Freshman Cortlin Salge also came in 16th in the half mile at 1:53.92.

Goliad, Texas freshman Hill registered a big PR in her second race of the day, slicing 3.3 seconds off her previous 400m hurdles time, winning her heat with a sixth-place 59.76 clocking. Earlier in the afternoon, Hill cut close to a new PR in the 100m hurdles, turning in a 12th-place 14.01 time. Also in the hurdles for the men, sophomore Zane Hodges came in 13th with a new 400m hurdles best at 52.95 seconds, following up a 17th-place 14.52 in the 100m hurdles.

In the 400m, sophomore Martín Kouyoumdjian added a seventh-place performance to the rolls with a new career clocking of 47.18.

Also registering finishes in the top 20 of Friday’s massive competition field, Paul Bouey was 12th in the shot put at 16.24m, while Garrett Stokes was 17th at 15.21m in the shot, Waylon McKenzie set a new discus PR at 48.93m with an 11th-place finish, and Bouey was also 16th in the disc with an outdoor season-high 47.56m. Jadelyn Malesich recorded a season best in the 1,500m at 4:44.81.

After almost all collegiate running events were completed on Friday, the 4x100m relay elite will start UTSA’s day one the track at 2:40 p.m., followed by the 400m elite invitational, 100m hurdles and 110m hurdles elite invitational sections, 400m hurdles invitational, 200m elite and 4x400m relay elite. Hammer throw will open Saturday’s field events at 2 p.m. CDT and the meet wraps for UTSA on the invitational triple jump at 5:30 p.m. CDT.
