UTSA to compete at 65th Mt. SAC Relays

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA track and field teams are headed west this weekend, scheduled to visit Walnut, California, and compete in the historic 65th Mt. SAC Relays at the newly-renovated Hilmer Lodge Stadium, Thursday, April 17 - Saturday, April 19.

Scheduled for the event at Mount San Antonio College and Hilmer Lodge Stadium, nestled between the San Gabriel Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, 33 Roadrunners (17 women, 16 men) are set to join in this national competition over the weekend, facing elite opposition from across the nation.

The 3,000m steeplechase will get things started for the Roadrunners on Thursday, opening up at 8:55 p.m. CDT, marking UTSA’s lone event for the day. Field events open Friday’s competition, beginning with the high jump at 11 a.m. CDT and running up to the shot put at 5 p.m. CDT. Friday’s running events action will begin at 1:25 p.m. CDT on the women’s 100m hurdles preliminary, followed by the men’s 110m hurdles, leading up to the final 1,500m at 8:30 p.m. CDT. Hammer throw opens Saturday field events at 2 p.m. CDT and the meet wraps for UTSA on the invitational triple jump at 5:30 p.m. CDT.

Heading into the week, the Roadrunner women have risen to 28th nationally as a squad, while the women’s long jump event group holds steady at No. 2 in DI. After a strong week at the 44 Farms Team Invitational in College Station earned her third place, No. 3 in the nation and No. 2 in the UTSA all-time heptathlon records at 5,741 points, redshirt freshman Mia Lien was named American Athletic Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. In addition, Lien is sixth national in the high jump and the new UTSA record-holder at 1.83m (6-0) and 21st in long jump at 6.30m (20-8). Sophomore Ida Breigan ranks ninth nationally in the long jump at 6.37m (20-10.75). Freshman Selma Ims comes in 17th in the 400m hurdles at 57.40 and rounding out three roadrunner jumpers in the top 25, senior Oreoluwa Adamson is 23rd at 6.27m (20-7). Pacing the men, grad student Hugo Menin ranks 31st in the 400m hurdles at 51.07, freshman Charlie Staddon is 41st in the 100m hurdles at 13.83 and the relay quartet of Mike Roth, Martín Kouyoumdjian, Hugo Menin and Matthew Mills are 34th with a UTSA all-time third-best 3:07.25 in the 4x400m.

Next week brings a return trip to Austin and Mike A. Myers Stadium, traveling to the Texas Invitational, Thursday, April 24 - Friday, April 25. The Texas Invite will be the second to last meet of the outdoor regular season ahead of mid-May’s AAC Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina.
