Bare’s top-10 finish guides UTSA to 11th at The Aggie Invitational

BRYAN, Texas — Brayden Bare finished in a tie for ninth place to lead UTSA to 11th at The Aggie Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday at Traditions Club (par 72/7,227 yards).

Entering the final round as part of a three-way tie for 12th at 3-over-par 147 (76-71), Bare posted a 2-over 74 to move into the top 10 while registering his top career individual finish in a team event. The redshirt sophomore logged a pair of birdies to finish with a dozen for the weekend, tied for the top total in the field.

Starting the final 18 on No. 10, Bare followed a par with a birdie on the 182-yard, par-3 11th. The Waco native then had six birdies and one bogey over the rest of the back nine for an even-par 36. He added his second birdie of the day on the 387-yard, par-4 fourth hole to highlight his 38 on the front.

Bare ended up with a 5-over 221 to share ninth place with three other golfers, including Oklahoma’s Jase Summy, the fifth-ranked player in the nation. His finish marks his second top 10 of the spring, as he grabbed a share of sixth at the All-American Individual last month at the Golf Club of Houston.

Logan Vargas was the next-highest finisher for the Roadrunners, ending up in sole possession of 36th with a 228 (74-79-75). Walker Franklin (79-82-81—242) and Jacob King (76-81-85—242) both tied for 68th and Jack Wehman was 72nd (85-81-84—250).

The Roadrunners claimed 11th in the team standings with a 931, 23 shots ahead of Louisiana Tech and only three shots out of the top 10 in the field won by host and No. 19 Texas A&M (867). No. 6 Oklahoma finished as runner-up (876).

UTSA will travel to Florida for the American Athletic Conference Championship on April 21-23 at the Ritz-Carlton Members Club in Sarasota.
